GLADIATOR (MAY 2013)
while i lived in NYC, my mental state often centered on thoughts about the end of the world. i had recurring dreams about the apocalypse being a comforting thing – a time where everyone survived and got to start over, with all the ills and institutions of the past buried and gone.
death is also a kind of apocalypse, so i started to experiment with the concept of the afterlife being a setting for my world. i envisioned fun little interviews with historical figures, where they joked about stuff like monarchy and gangrene, and how happy they were that life was over. i thought i would name this comic series Spirit World and have a ghostly, ethereal theme. it didn’t stick, but i still like the idea.
