THE BIRD KING, CHAPTER 7 (MAY 2015)
when a story is weighing in your heart, something you write as a metaphor for what you’re going through, it can be hard to know how to write the ending. this makes sense, because you haven’t figured out how it ends in real life yet, either. it’s just guessing.
so when i wrote this chapter of The Bird King, i was still in the murk of everything and wasn’t sure if healing was even possible. i was afraid that life feeling like a meaningless abyss was a realization of truth about the universe, and not just the result of trauma and depression. in light of this, the way i wrote Chapter 7 here can be viewed as an act of hope – an ending where healing was possible and that there were people who could help me out. i thought that maybe by writing that ending, i could conjure it into my real life as well.
also, my favorite part of this one is the weird posters about teeth.
